Charles B. Sowell, Commander, U.S. Navy (ret), is the Chief Operating Officer at iWorks Corporation in Tysons Corner, Virginia. Charlie is an accomplished military, government and industry leader and a nationally-recognized subject matter expert on security clearance reform issues. Prior to joining iWorks, he was the Senior Vice President for National Security Programs at Salient CRGT. Charlie served in the federal government as the Deputy Assistant Director for Special Security and Program Executive for Security Clearance Reform at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). He was appointed as a Senior National Intelligence Service (SNIS) officer in 2008. Prior to ODNI, Charlie spent 13 years in industry in various project and program management positions supporting DoD and the Intelligence Community. He retired from the Navy in 2015 following 27 years of active duty and reserve assignments as an Intelligence Officer, NCIS Agent and Intelligence Specialist (enlisted). Charlie received his bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and his master’s degree from the Joint Military Intelligence College. He has been featured on MSNBC’s Ali Velshi show, WTOP Federal News Radio, the Washington Post, New York Times, Defense News and other publications, providing commentary on national security issues.
